1. Ubuntu Overview #
Ubuntu is an open source Linux operating system. For more information visit the Ubuntu home page. This guide will help you install the Desktop version of Ubuntu on Shunya N-BOX Mini Server.
2. Install Ubuntu #
2.1 What you will need for installation #
- Shunya N-BOX mini server
- USB drive (at least 16GB)
- HDMI Monitor
- USB Keyboard and Mouse
- Internet connection
- Laptop/PC
- Ethernet Cable
2.2 Steps #
2.2.1 Make a Bootable USB for Ubuntu #

Download the Ubuntu Installation Image on your Laptop/PC:

Download the 22.04 version of Ubuntu

This screenshot shows an example installation with version 22.04 of Ubuntu. We recommend downloading the version 22.04 of Ubuntu.

Use balenaEtcher to make bootable USB on a separate Laptop/PC:
- Download and install “balenaEtcher” from balenaEtcher website.
- Insert your USB Drive into the separate laptop or PC and open balenaEtcher.
- Click on “Flash from file” and select the Ubuntu installer image file.
- Click on “Select target” and choose your USB drive.
- Click on “Flash!” to create a bootable USB drive for Ubuntu.

2.2.2 Install Ubuntu #

Access BIOS:
-
Power off Shunya N-BOX mini-server.

Connect the monitor, insert the bootable USB, and plug in a USB keyboard and mouse.

Power on the device and press the “DELETE” key to enter the BIOS.

Set Boot Priority:
-
Navigate to the “Boot” tab, then “FIXED BOOT ORDER Priorities.”

Confirm that “Boot Option #1” is set to “USB Device.”

Press “F4” to save and exit the BIOS.

Reboot the Shunya N-BOX mini-server (power off and power on).

Ubuntu installer will boot up.

Install Ubuntu:

Choose your language and Click “Install Ubuntu.”

Select the keyboard layout.

Connect to the internet via Ethernet.

Choose “Normal Installation.”

Check the option for third-party software.

Select “Erase Disk and Install Ubuntu” (backup your data on Mini Server before proceeding).

Confirm the installation.

Set the timezone.

Set up user accounts.

-
Click “Restart Now” after installation.

Remove the bootable USB and press ENTER.

Ubuntu should boot to the login screen.

Installation of Ubuntu is complete!
